Russians Made 195.6 Million Biometric Payments in 2025
Last year, Russians made 195.6 million payments using biometrics, which is nearly six times higher than the figure for 2024, the press service of the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT) told RIA Novosti.
"In 2025, the number of biometric payments reached 195.6 million. This is almost six times higher than the figure for 2024. Back then, biometrics were used for purchases 33.1 million times," the service reported.
Moscow and St. Petersburg became the leaders in terms of the number of transactions, but the service is also actively used in other regions.
"No other payment method shows such impressive growth. Based on public opinion polls and the increasing level of trust in biometrics, we forecast that this momentum will continue this year as well," added Vladislav Svyatik, Deputy General Director of the CBT.
He recalled that today, purchases using biometrics can be made even in small towns. Biometric terminals are installed throughout the country: no card or phone is needed, just look into the terminal's camera.
