Biometric Purchases in Rostov Region Increased Fivefold in 2025
In 2025, the Rostov Region saw an increase in purchases made using QR codes and biometrics, noted the Don branch of the Southern Main Directorate of the Central Bank of Russia.
Specifically, QR codes were used 82.8 million times during the year to pay for goods and services, totaling 114.8 billion rubles. In terms of the number of such payments, the figure was 60% higher than in 2024, and the total amount grew by nearly 32%.
"The popularity of biometric payments is growing. In the region last year, 3.2 million such payments were made, totaling 2.6 billion rubles. This is five times more in terms of quantity and 6.5 times more in terms of volume than the previous year," noted Alexey Delibozhenkov, Deputy Manager of the Bank of Russia branch for the Rostov Region.
Experts believe that biometric payments have increased due to the growing number of retail outlets and terminals that support this payment method.
In addition, the Rostov Region continues to record an increase in the number of new bank cards. As of January 1, 2026, approximately 13.3 million bank cards had been issued for residents of the Don region. Over the year, their number increased by 4.2%.
